Shaping the Future of Public Health Academia Through Systemic Change
Transforming Academia for Equity (TAE), funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), partners with academic leaders and institutions to co-create environments where historically underrepresented scholars can thrive. Seven grantee institutions engage guiding teams that use shared leadership to identify and address adaptive challenges, moving beyond historically oppressive academic environments toward spaces that support scholars advancing health equity through community-based research.
TAE grantees receive tailored coaching, capacity-building support, and systems-change strategies to strengthen their impact. Together, the TAE network is reimagining how schools and programs of public health foster, sustain, and uplift inclusive academic environments—moving past one-size-fits-all approaches and centering equity and belonging. Through peer learning, mentorship strengthening, and collaborative strategies to address structural barriers, TAE is building a future where all can contribute fully.

Change Matrix
TAE is coordinated by Change Matrix, a consulting group that provides tailored support to each grantee institution. Our role includes strategic coaching, collaborative planning, facilitated learning sessions, and connection with field-wide resources and networks. We also partner with external evaluators and national associations to ensure shared learning across the broader public health space.
