On Friday, July 1, 2022, Change Matrix (CM) project Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) completed a seven-month-long community storytelling project. In December 2021, CEC awarded 20 organizations across Colorado $2,000 each to share community stories related to their services and the social determinants of health (SDOH) — factors that have a direct impact on a person’s health, wellbeing, and longevity. On July 1, awardees submitted those story products to CEC and those stories will be made accessible on the CEC website, both in English and Spanish, in the month of July.
This project is the result of work by the CEC Collaborative, a team with members from CM, Consume & Create, Colorado Health Institute, and The Colorado Trust.
Each awardee submitted at least five story products to CEC.
“Awardees exemplified their connection to the communities they serve, their mission to address SDOH, and their ability to uncover and create a collection of five story products that highlight the unique experiences of their community,” said CEC Project Lead Rachele Espiritu, PhD.
This effort aligns with CEC’s efforts to both increase accessibility to quantitative and qualitative data about the SDOH for communities across colorado.
Examples of submitted story products:
- Video interviews/documentary of community residents or clients served
- Written article or blog about an individual or community (Q&A/interview or story)
- Podcast episodes about health
- Photovoice project asking community members to submit photos with captions
- Infographic using data from the Colorado Equity Compass
- Website dedicated to collecting community stories
