Born in Somalia, Fauzy Sayid spent several years of childhood and adolescence in Kenya before moving to the U.S. on an immigrant visa petitioned by his late father in early 2012. Living with physical impairment caused by post-polio syndrome, Fauzy has been a firm believer in self-advocacy and determination. Since coming to the U.S., he has managed to go to college, become a father, and pursue a career in accounting. He’s a proud father of five and a problem solver for many friends and colleagues. Now, Fauzy brings his problem-solving skills to Change Matrix’s administration team.

What drew you to CM?

Before discovering Change Matrix, I helped small businesses with their bookkeeping and tax needs. Among them were local non-profit organizations run by minority groups that provided immigration and resettlement services and state benefits resources. I watched the lives of families change through those programs. Change Matrix provided an excellent opportunity for me to exercise government contract accounting — a whole new accounting world to explore. I saw a massive opportunity to advance my accounting knowledge in a company that nurtures positive change on many levels.

What is your role at CM?

At Change Matrix, I serve as an Accounting Assistant. A role that allows me to contribute to the company’s financial operations. Working closely with the admin team, I’m responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounting software, posting to the general ledger, and tracking accounts receivable and accounts payable. I also play a crucial role in reconciling bank and credit card accounts, reporting, and closing books for the year. While I do not work on specific projects, I enjoy following the numbers behind all the great projects that Change Matrix teams work on. Besides my love for working in the finance department, I also love the welcoming culture of inclusivity and togetherness within the entire Change Matrix community.
